I learned that when making homemade pizza with a metal pizza pan you should never pre-heat the metal pizza pan in the same way you would a pizza stone. The metal pizza pan will get too hot and burn the dough on the bottom, making your pizza hard as a rock and not as delicious as you would have preferred.
